Mit Hasselblad die Natur erkunden

Exploring nature with Hasselblad

The Hasselblads is one of the most expensive cameras on the market. But is the high price justified? Find out here what makes Hasselblad models so special and why you can use them for impressive outdoor shots.

The advantages of Hasselblad cameras

Apart from Leica, there is hardly any other camera manufacturer as well-known and renowned as Hasselblad. The name stands for top quality and the highest level of photographic perfection. Analog versions of the Hasselblad were used for the moon landing and for the recording of the Beatles' "Abbey Road" album cover. The traditional Swedish company no longer produces analog cameras, but today's digital system cameras from Hasselblad are also famous and expensive. With all the trimmings, a Hasselblad can cost around 30,000 €. What makes the camera so expensive?

Unlike other models, a Hasselblad does not consist of just one unit, but of a total of three parts. These are the camera body, the digital back and the lens. The lens can be purchased separately and thus according to your individual needs. The most expensive part, the digital back, contains the sensor. This is larger than usual in the Hasselblad. This allows the camera to capture considerably more detail. There is less image noise and an extended dynamic range. You can therefore rely on particularly sharp and clear images, regardless of whether you are planning portraits, landscape shots or architectural photography.

Another reason for the high price and attractiveness of Hasselblad cameras is the manufacturing process. Hasselblad produces less than 10,000 models a year and builds most of them manually. Every component is carefully tested and calibrated in the production facility in Gothenburg before it is connected and soldered. Hasselblad only employs experts who are specialized in their task and have years of experience. Through handmade production and meticulous attention to detail, Hasselblad meets a standard of quality that few other brands can match.

If you want to take nature photos, a compact camera with a low weight is an advantage so that you can transport it easily. In this respect, a Hasselblad is the perfect solution. The cameras used to be very heavy. Nowadays, however, lighter housings and lenses are used so that you can easily take them with you on your outdoor adventures.

The Hasselblad series

The Hasselblad product range currently comprises two camera series that are fundamentally incompatible with each other.

The X-series

The X1D 50c was the first Hasselblad X-series camera to be launched in 2016. It was the world's first compact, mirrorless medium format camera with an electronic viewfinder. Today, the X2D 100C and XID II 50C models are produced. The series is characterized by its lightweight construction, modern electronics and full connectivity. There are 13 lenses in the Hasselblad range that match the X series.

The V-series

The V-series includes Hasselblad's medium format cameras in the square 6×6 format, which have been developed by the company since the 1940s. Today, they are of particular interest to collectors. The last camera in the V-series is the 503 CW, but it is no longer in production. Lovers of classic aesthetics can access various advanced digital backs from the V series. The CFV II 50C and CFV 100C backs, for example, support the integration of the analog V-System 500, 200 and other film and view cameras. They are connected to the 907X lens plate. The now semi-digital V-System builds a bridge between tradition and the latest photographic technology and is therefore ideal for nostalgics who do not want to do without the best possible image quality.

Capturing memorable outdoor adventures

With a Hasselblad, outdoor photography is not only an exciting experience, but also an opportunity to capture the beauty of nature in breathtaking detail. The built-in technology of Hasselblad models sets standards for the global photography industry with every improvement. This is noticeable in many details that also pay off in outdoor photography. These include the in-camera image stabilizer, the built-in SSD memory with a capacity of 1 TB and the 100 megapixel sensor.

Choosing the right lens

Hasselblad offers various lenses, each of which is specialized for specific applications. There are several possible lenses for outdoor photography. These include, among others:

The XCD 2.5/25V was developed for night photography. The wide-angle lens has a focal length of 20 mm. The maximum aperture is f/2.5 and the minimum focus distance is 25 cm. With the XCD 2.5/25V you can take breathtaking pictures of cityscapes and starry skies at night, capturing fascinating details of light and shadow.

The XCD 2.5/38V has been specially designed for travel photography. It weighs only 350 g and has a minimum focus distance of 30 cm. Thanks to the large f/2.5 aperture, you can capture the surrounding details richly or emphasize the subject with the help of the bokeh effect. Resolution and color reproduction are unsurpassed with this lens.

With the XCD 3.5/30 you can photograph both wide landscapes and close-up subjects. The wide-angle lens has a focal length of 24 mm, making it ideal for outdoor activities. The horizontal angle of view is 71°. The extremely high performance is maintained even at close range.

The best Hasselblad equipment

There are special accessories for the X-System and the V-System that could be particularly interesting for outdoor adventures. These include, for example:

  • Carrying straps: with a Hasselblad camera carrying strap, you can transport your camera safely and comfortably. The materials are sustainable and environmentally friendly.
  • Filters: You can find UV, CPL and ND8 filters in the store. This means you are prepared for different weather conditions and environmental conditions.
  • Lens cap: A suitable lens cap protects the lens from dust, scratches and other damage.
  • Additional batteries: Spare batteries are particularly important for longer trips to ensure that the camera is always ready for use.
  • Cable release: With the help of a cable release, the camera can be triggered without contact. This prevents camera shake when taking pictures and the photos are razor sharp. You should always use a cable release, especially for long exposures.
